Aromatherapy massage is the therapeutic use of essential oils extracted from aromatic plants and trees. These oils are blended with a carrier oil and are applied to the body through massage, to improve health and to promote an inner sense of well-being.
Aromatherapy is a holistic treatment; it doesn't just treat your symptoms, it treats you as a whole person. Aromatherapy can be incorporated as part of a holistic healing plan, to support the benefits of good nutrition, moderate exercise, and relaxation techniques.
There are many conditions which make us feel below par, have poor sleep, gain weight or retain fluid. While not life-threatening, these conditions reduce our quality of life and certainly reduce our performance. Aromatherapists also look at their clients' diet, whether they smoke, how well they sleep and how much stress is involved in their job and family life.
Potential benefits of aromatherapy include:
The relief of stress and tension |
Stimulated immune system |
Improved blood and lymph circulation |
Increased energy levels |
A feeling of deep relaxation |
A calm and soothed mind |
A general sense of well being |

Lorraine, our therapist states:
“When choosing a blend of oils for my client, I have to take all factors into account, and guide my client toward alterations they could make to their lifestyle.”
Treatment can come in many forms apart from massage; for example, bath oils, creams, shampoos, steam inhalation, or a diffuser. A blend to put in the bath could be used for relaxation, or a cream could be prepared for a skin complaint. In some cases, a combined approach is required. The use of essential oils in this way is known as Aromatology.
